Fresh As A Daisy

Deodorant

Ever since we were teenagers dousing ourselves with Impulse or Lynx sprays, deodorant has been an essential part of the daily routine. Unfortunately its not a great habit for the environment. Deodorant sticks are made of 2 different kinds of plastic - so they are very difficult to recycle.

Let's face it - nobody wants to be that guy or girl with bad B.O. We're pretty paranoid about this stuff. And don't the deodorant brands know it! How else can they convince us we need 48 hours of protection? How else could they sell us deodorants containing  chemicals that read like something out of Breaking Bad?

One of the leading deodorant brands contains: Cyclopentasiloxane, Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex GLY, Dimethicone, Cera Microcrystallina, Paraffin, Parfum, Silica, Sodium Starch Octenylsuccinate, Maltodextrin, Hydrolysed Corn Starch, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, BHT, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Cinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Citral, Citronellol, Coumarin, Eugenol, Farnesol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellal, Isoeugenol, Limonene, Linalool.

Believe it or not, there are excellent plastic-free alternatives that actually really work. Turns out, its not the sweat that smells, but rather the bacteria that forms after the sweat dries. No bacteria, no odour. So there's no need for gazillions of chemicals to block your sweat glands. Gentle deodorants that kill microbes will do the trick.
